I have been having some crazy scotch cravings lately (insert withdrawal (or old person in a young person body) jokes here). Which leads to urges to purchase smoking jackets, tufted leather sofas, and decanters.
I love scotch. I know nothing about scotch. Tumblr does, though.
Suggestions for affordable-but-not-horrible ones I can drink at home?

  1. lizlemon answered: Johnny Walker Black is my go-to but it’s not particularly delightful or fancy… Glen Fidditch is surprisingly yum.
  2. champagne-campaign said: despite buying that bottle of johnny walker blue, i have no idea about hard liquors. have been trying to find a scotch/whiskey/bourbon tasting around town! i know bourbon does a bourbon one which is intriguing if i can follow it with their chili mac.
  3. jacquesofalltrades answered: I second the Laphroaig recommendation, it’s smoky but smooth.
  4. stickyhide answered: Johnny Walker Black.
  5. thehonestpalate answered: Aberlour A’Bunadh. Runs you about $60 and it is my favorite middle range scotch. Smooth with a little spiciness.
  6. buildingaladder answered: My advice is to ask fullcredit!
  7. loafersansocks answered: Jura — it’s a 10-year-old single malt that will run you about $35.
  8. whiskeybentandhellbound answered: Cutty Sark is cheap and goes down smoothly!
  9. ananonymousbob answered: Glenlivets was pretty good for something that didn’t cost a ton. I think the bottle was about $30 (that’s pretty cheap for Scotch).
  10. champagne-and-icecream said: talk to fullcredit. she loves scotch.
  11. joemuto answered: Blended: Johnny Walker Black; smooth Single-Malt: Balvenie 12-year; smoky Single-Malt: Laphroaig 10-year
  12. easilyportable said: Macallan 12 and 15 years are good mid-range scotches. I like the 15 more. Glenmorganie Nectar D’Or has a suprisingly smooth finish.
  13. megrock answered: Glenmorange, Oban, anything from SCOTLAND!
